BENEFITING: Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly
ORGANIZER: Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly
Hello Friends and Family!
Early this year, I volunteered at a Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly celebration Chicago on a sunny spring day. At the end of the party, an elder leaned in and shared the secret to long life: It is to love each other and love yourself.
Little Brothers motto is "flowers before bread," but really, LBFE's mission has a great deal to do with the wisdom the elder bestowed on me earlier this year: We all need love and friendship, in addition to our basic needs. LBFE provides companionship and socialization to isolated, and often less mobile, elders in Chicagoland.
I look forward to celebrating the holiday season with all of you. But for others, the absence of family and friends is overwhelming. LBFE works hard year-round to make sure that elders are never alone, but particularly on Christmas Day and throughout the holiday season. This year, 600 of our elders, who may otherwise spend the holiday alone, will celebrate Christmas Day with LBFE Chicago.
The mission of LBFE is close to my heart, and I hope you will consider making a donation. Here's how you will make an impact:
- $10 sends a home delivered meal with flowers and a friendly visit
- $40 supports 5 nursing home visits by friendly volunteers bringing an elder flowers and treats
- $100 supports 10 rides to/from the parties for elders in wheelchairs or with limited mobility
- $250 provides a table of 8 with a three-course meal, flowers, entertainment, & friendly transportation by a volunteer.
Thank you for considering this great cause. If you would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities, please let me know. Merry Christmas!
