BENEFITING: Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly
ORGANIZER: Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly
Having just spent Thanksgiving with 18 individuals crammed into my tiny condo, I recognize that I am lucky. We all found our way through the buffet line and back to the table in our little condo without either of my 70lb dogs tackling anyone for our food. From the hours of preparation to the bellyaching afterwards, from the cheerful conversation to the serious business of divvying up the precious leftovers, these are moments I look forward to every year. And I am reminded of how holidays spent with family and friends enrich my life. So yes, I am lucky. However, not everyone is quite so lucky. For those who are alone and isolated, enduring the holidays in the absence of family and friends can be an overwhelming reality.
But through the efforts of Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly and our amazing volunteers, the lives of lonely and isolated older adults can be enriched and brightened throughout the year, particularly during the holidays. This year, please consider giving to our Christmas holiday campaign - Making Spirits Bright - and ensure that the joy many of us felt just a few days ago can be experienced by hundreds of others in just a few short weeks.
Here's how you will make an impact:
- $10 – sends a home delivered meal with flowers & a friendly visit
- $40 – supports 5 nursing home visits by friendly volunteers bringing an elder flowers and treats
- $100 – supports 10 rides to/from the parties for elders in wheelchairs or with limited mobility (100 special mobility rides are needed to transport elders who are in wheelchairs or have limited mobility)
- $250 – provides a table of 8 with a three-course meal, flowers, entertainment, & friendly transportation by a volunteer.
All donations made by 12/2 are eligible for a matching grant!
