BENEFITING: LEE & BEULAH MOOR CHILDRENS HOME
EVENT DATE: Dec 16, 2012
My name is Miguel Guzman and I am a senior at New Mexico State University studying music education in voice. I have also been a retail sales associate for a few years and I am fed up with feeling like people are nothing but selfish and rude during the holidays.
I am going to change things up this year.
I will be donating my Christmas to the Lee and Beulah Moor Children's Home. Not quite an orphanage, but a place for children whose family are in a rough spot and need support from the community. Afterall, it takes an entire village to raise a child.
What does it mean to donate my Christmas?
I will be teaching the grade school aged children at this facility a few music lessons this holiday season. These lessons are not only intended to help lift a child's spirits during the holidays, but also challenge their musical abilities essential to developing certain thinking skills (AKA games. You have to sneak the learning part in.)
I believe that every child deserves the foundations of a great music education in order to be a well-rounded student. This is regardless of socioeconomic or family background!
Donating my Christmas also means that I will not be accepting ANY personal Christmas gifts this year. I instead asking that your money be used to go towards this cause. I am going to use the money raised to help purchase children's instruments for the kids at The Lee and Beulah Moor Children's Home, in hopes that having these instruments on the premesis will spark interest that will grow into a passion that may become, if nothing else, therapeutic.
Whether it is $5 or $25 any amount will help and be put to good use!
***NOTICE: I am serious about not accepting gifts! If I recieve a gift, it will be returned or sold on craigslist. Not that I don't appreciate it, I just know there are better ways the money could be spent. :)
