The Little Village Nonviolence Institute is a youth summer program and paid apprenticeship for leaders interested in nonviolence training. The program focuses on teaching the philosophy of nonviolence and the practice of mindfulness.
The Little Village Nonviolence Leadership Institute is program designed to aid in decreasing violence among youth in Little Village through community education. We provide the necessary training to young people for the development of an alternative means to solve conflicts, utilizing nonviolent strategies. Our goal it to have both the perpetrators and victims of community violence gather in conversation and in community, particularly the most marginalized and oppressed members of the Little Village community.
Our goal is to build young people's character by expanding their consciousness, and only through building consciousness can we influence people’s character, which translates into a more caring and healthy community. The Little Village Nonviolence Institute is a means for empowering young people from a traditionally oppressed community to take responsibility for their thought-processes, actions, and overall community. It mission is to cultivate the idea that nonviolence is a life-style. Only when people become engaged in nonviolence will we have true peace in our community.
The Nonviolence Leadership Development Institute, Little Village Youth Summer Program: No Violence Know Peace, is the culmination of the Four Annual Little Village Youth Forums (2008-2011) and is the continuation Little Village Youth Peace Talks hosted by the OLLIN youth group of the Telpochcalii Community Education Project.
