Our Mission!

LitWorld strengthens kids and communities through the power of their own stories. Together, authoring a bold new world of equity and opportunity. LitWorld is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization creating permanent positive change in the world. We create on-the-ground innovative solutions to the profoundly hard-to-tackle challenge of illiteracy worldwide. The combined power of children’s own stories + access to diverse reading/writing experiences + peer to peer and adult mentor relationships = productive and transformational literacy.

Our Projects:

LitClubs & LitCamps: Focused on "high-risk, high-potential" children ages 10-14, LitClubs & LitCamps fill out-of-school time with joyful learning, creative play and social interaction. Trained mentors support children as they learn to value their own and others' stories and use reading, writing, listening and speaking skills to work towards their dreams.

The HerStory Campaign: A global initiative created by LitWorld and Global G.L.O.W. to inspire girls and support them in creating lives of freedom and fulfillment through the power of their own stories. The HerStory Campaign creates and supports innovative LitClubs around the world, and then shares girls’ stories to bring them to the forefront of the global conversation. With community-based partners in 25 countries, the HerStory Campaign amplifies girls’ voices all over the world to ignite systemic change.

Stand Up For Girls: LitWorld’s Stand Up for Girls campaign mobilizes girls and boys, men and women, to advocate for every girl's right to tell her story to change the world. By learning to read, write and share their stories, girls understand that their words have the power to create monumental change. We celebrate the campaign on October 11th, the annual UN sanctioned International Day of the Girl.

World Read Aloud Day: Celebrated on the first Wednesday of March, World Read Aloud Day creates a worldwide network of champions for equal access to quality learning experiences. Over 1 million people in all 50 states and over 75 countries read aloud and hold reading celebrations on World Read Aloud Day.
