BENEFITING: PEACEPLAYERS INTERNATIONAL
EVENT DATE: May 26, 2016
Olivia Warshaw wrote -PeacePlayers International is a non-profit program created by two brothers from Washington, DC, Brendan and Sean Tuohey, who spent time coaching youth basketball in Northern Ireland in 2000. They noticed how a sport was able to unite the people despite the different beliefs, and living conditions; as Brendan Tuohey said, “Through year-round sports activities, we are bringing together children from opposite sides of religious, ethnic and cultural divides to develop friendship and mutual respect.”. In 2007, Playing for Peace became PeacePlayers International (PPI) to reflect a new, worldwide scope. Now their focus was worldwide, to help the children in need. According to statistics, 1 in 10 of the world’s children currently live in countries affected by armed conflicts; PeacePlayers International is trying to help all people sight some happiness and greatness through the wonderful sport of basketball. Today, We are here to give something back to our community by representing PeacePlayers International through our CAS project. As avid athletes, basketball is crucial to our lives. We have been incredibly fortunate with the opportunities that we have had, and want to give younger athletes in conflicted areas such as Cyprus, South Africa, Washington DC, the Middle East, and Northern Ireland the opportunities that they deserve. Your donation can help provide support for a child in the program, train coaches, and ensure that this wonderful program can continue. Thank you so much for reading, and for your donation!
