BENEFITING: Covenant House
The Global Welcome experience at LivePerson has given us the amazing task of helping others. We have decided to help out Covenant House.
Give what you can, our just spread the good word about the work being done by The Covenant House (a branch of which is a mere 2 blocks from the NYC Office).
Covenant House not only provides immediate shelter for homeless and throwaway children, but they provide holistic care complete with mental help for abused children and preparation for a positive future with job and interview training. In addition to providing care and love for those in the program, they also fight against the main causes of youth homelessness: abusive homes, human trafficking, sex trafficking, and neglect.
Here are the kind of kids Covenant House helps:
“Kathy came through the doors of Covenant House dressed in dirty rags and clutching a small paint can to her chest. Whatever she did, wherever she went, the paint can never left her hands. She took the can with her to the cafeteria that first morning, and to bed with her at night. Kathy never spoke about the contents of the can, until one day, a concerned staff member approached her: “Kathy, that’s a really nice can. What’s in it?” For a long time, Kathy didn’t answer. Then she looked over at the counselor with tears in her eyes and said:
“It’s my mother. It’s my mother’s ashes.” “See, it has her name on it.” Kathy pointed to a little red label which listed the only memories Kathy had of her mother: name, date of birth, date of death. Kathy held the can close, and hugged it. “I never really knew my mother. I mean, she threw me in the garbage two days after I was born.”
“I ended up living in a lot of foster homes, mad at my mother,” Kathy said. “But then, I decided I was going to try to find her. I got lucky – someone knew where she was living. I went to her house but she wasn’t there,” Kathy said. “My mother was in the hospital. She had AIDS. I went there… I got to meet her the day before she died. My mother told me she loved me,” Kathy said crying. “She told me she loved me.”
Donate today - here's what your donation can do:
$10 would feed Kathy for the day.
$25 would keep Kathy warm with a new coat during this harsh winter.
$35 would give Kathy comfort at night with new bedding.
$50 would help prepare Kathy for success with a new dress for a job interview.
Our goal of $2,600 will feed two children for an entire year!
Learn about Covenant House and donate if you can!
We'd like to keep giving even after GWE is over. If you want to do a little something extra, or aren't able to donate monetarily, I (Jessica Douglas) will be collecting clothes, coats, shoes, blankets etc to walk over to Covenant House. Please bring in all donations by the 27th of January.
