Liver Disease Awareness Fundraiser for UAB PCCU
Organized by: Tabitha Birchfield
October is Liver Disease Awareness month and in honor of Jackie Tant and his battle with Liver Disease we would like to help families that are in Palliative Comfort Care Unit at UAB . In October & November 2015 Jackie was a patient at UAB . He was first in CICU , moved to MICU and his fianl placement was at Palliative care . Most people aren't aware as to what PCCU even is , but in a nutshell , this is the unit where patients are sent to pass when transport back to their home isn't a possibility . The rooms are set up like hotel rooms , sofas , chairs and fold out beds . They also provide a family room with food donated so families never have to leave the unit to eat . This was a huge help to our family ! They have art stations to keep children occupied and the most caring , wonderful staff I've ever met . During a devastating time , they comforted us as well as looked after my Dad . Drop off of food , art supplies , toiletries and gift cards. There are several local restraints within walking distance , McDonalds , Burger King and Captain D's . Gift cards will help with the excessive expenses of staying at the hospital for weeks or months on end . Please share this , all funds raised will go toward purchasing items for PCCU .
