70% of people that are incarcerated have gone through the foster care system.
54% of foster youth do not graduate from high school.
3% of foster youth go to college.
1% of foster youth graduate from college.
The reason is that all too often foster youth have challenges of lost documents or misplaced important papers that prevent them from receiving services. When youth do not have access to their social security cards, birth certificates, immunization/medical documentation and other vital life records, they are rendered completely “unidentifiable." When a child is continuously moved from home to home, there are instances when teenagers are even unaware of their own birthdates.
Take the challenge with us by donating to Living Advantage and helping us end unemployment, homelessness, and incarceration among foster youth.
We help to empower disadvantaged foster youth to take control of their destiny and be productive members of society. We will provide the necessary direction and skills for them to realize their dreams through maintaining life documents, education, social skills, job training, counseling, motivation, and integrating with positive role models in the community in order to have a higher rate of successful outcomes.
