Living a full life with Lupus
Organized by: J'Rie Blackwell-Elliott
I am a married, mother of two children. I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus (by body's immune system is attacking itself) this has caused me fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, disc disease, as well as several other conditions. I am a full time college student trying to get my BS degree in Human Development. However since I am a married woman and Caucasian I do not qualify for additional scholarships or programs. Most of my tuition is paid with student loans. My husband works diligently to provide for our family but I am concerned about the exceedingly expensive education debt I am incurring. I want our children to know that you can overcome adversity and become educated even if you do start later in life. Just a note: My education has been a priority since I began, and even with having to adjust my schedule for my health I have maintained a 3.69-4.0 average for 3 years--I graduate summer 2016.
