THE STORY:

LIVING Ministry Incorporated wrote -

We love the homeless! Through God's grace, we have been called to uncover the hope of Jesus Christ as we pursue and build relationships with the homeless. Founded in 2002, L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry is one of the leading organizations addressing poverty in Pittsburgh through a strategy that combines building personal relationships, meeting basic needs, offering tools for self-sufficiency, and providing opportunities for community involvement. In 12 years of ministry, we have shared life with over 10,000 homeless individuals on a face-to-face basis. At L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry, our desire is not just to take people out of the streets, but take the street out of people. Everyone wants to 'fix' the problems of the homeless, but not many people are dealing with the root issues. We at L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry are called to address the root causes of the homeless by engaging in Christian discipleship, mentoring, counseling, and relational support. Experience and observation has taught the ministry that the current methods of serving the homeless are not the most effective. Treating the homeless as 'clients' just builds entitlement, not empowerment. Focusing on spiritual, emotional, and relational needs builds a solid foundation for real and sustainable change in the life of a homeless man or woman. Using our methods of outreach, we have seen everything transform within a person. From restored family relationships, to new outlooks on work and service, amazing things are happening in the lives of the homeless here in Pittsburgh!

One of our newest and excting ways that we share life with our friends is by particpating in the Pittsburgh Marathon. We take this opportunity every year to join our volunteers, donors, staff, and homeless to celebrate life by running in this massive city-wide event. You can read this article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry's marathon teams in 2014.

If you love to run, have a passion to serve the homeless, or just interested in being a part of our family, then we have a place for you! Sign up to join our team or donate to a team member to help us continue the work of uncovering the hope of Jesus Christ to people throughout our beloved city.
