Liv's Volunteer Trip to Southeast Asia
Organized by: Olivia Bell
Hi everyone! I'm currently trying to raise money to go on a volunteer trip through VESAbroad to Southeast Asia to work in an elephant sanctuary and help teach English in a local school. I'll include an excerpt from their website that explains the work being done, since it explains it a lot better than I could! I would love to be able to go on this trip this coming May if I can and it would be such an incredible experience!
"In the first week, you’ll be assisting the centre’s team in a variety of projects: riding the elephants to and from their jungle bedroom, preparing their daily meals, planting banana and sugar cane for their future source of food, and maintaining and building infrastructure such as the veterinary clinic, elephant nursery and viewing platforms. Just as importantly, we’ll be working within local schools teaching English to the cutest kids in the world. They are shy but so willing to learn. Providing an introduction to English is such an important role in this part of the world, where a grasp of English can mean escaping the poverty cycle and securing their future. A little about me: I'm currently 19 years old and working almost full time at a Dog Day Camp and Kennel. I was attending school at Bowling Green State University but I took some time off to try and figure out what I really want to pursue in school. I have done volunteer work in the past at home with my grandmother's nonprofit organization that tutor's inner city children in Cincinnati. I have also done volunteer work in Mexico on a mission trip! I have a deep love of volunteering and helping others that need it. I have an immense love of animals and I am interested in pursuing a career as a veterinary technician but I would prefer to work with large and/or exotic animals. Being able to volunteer at this sanctuary in Laos would be the perfect opportunity to be around these beautiful, large animals. Any amount is greatly appreciated and if you cannot give, good vibes are appreciated (: Thank you! Liv
