BENEFITING: One Love Foundation in honor of Yeardley Love
EVENT DATE: Oct 17, 2015
As a former NDP graduate and member of the University of Virginia women's lacrosse team, I am honored to run my first half-marathon for the One Love Foundation.
The One Love Foundation in honor of Yeardley Reynolds Love was created in 2010 to honor the memory of Yeardley Love, a UVA senior who was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend just weeks short of graduation. The Foundation is more popularly known as One Love, with "One" representing the number that Yeardley wore on her jersey during her high school and college lacrosse career.
1 in 3 women in this country will be in a violent relationship during her lifetime. Today, 5 years after Yeardley's death, One Love is doing more work than ever to achieve its goal of ending relationship violence. While relationship and domestic violence have been an unspoken epidemic in our society forever, massive shifts in awareness in the last year present a one of a kind opportunity to spark change. One Love is building on this opportunity by brining compelling and powerful educational curricula and campaigns to campuses across the country.
