BENEFITING: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
ORGANIZER: LLS Pittsburgh
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
Never thought I'd ever say this, but I've decided to run the Pittsburgh Half-Marathon this year. As a parent of two kids, my goal is to promote fitness and good health, while improving my own physique. I'm a firm believer in the saying "Practice what you Preach". What better way to do so than by running 13.1 miles!
After registering for this race, I noticed that the date of the race is on May 1st. This is a very special date to me. It is the birthday of my aunt Ginny Tamasy, who passed away last year after a hard fought battle with Leukemia and breast cancer last year. She was such a wonderful person and caring person. Despite the fact that she already had four kids of her own, she and my Uncle Tom adopted me after my mother passed away when I was 10 years old. She was always looking out for the welfare of others.
I saw first hand what a devastating disease Leukemia can be. I'm optimistic that doctors will eventually figure out a quick and effective way to treat this illness, but it won't be done overnight. This is why I have chosen to run this race with a purpose. I am asking that donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) .
LLS is the largest voluntary cancer research agency specifically focused on finding cures and better treatments for blood cancer patients. With the scope and scale to fund many projects at the same time, LLS supports hundreds of cancer scientists around the world.
Please join me in donating towards this great cause. My goal is to raise $1000 by the time I cross the finish line.
Thank you all for your support,
