BENEFITING: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
ORGANIZER: LLS Charity Runners
EVENT DATE: May 05, 2013
I am running to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a charity that means a lot to me and my family. On August 30th, 2009, my Uncle Jimmy lost his battle with ALL. I think about him everyday. I strive to do things in my life that I know would make him proud, and I know he would think it was crazy - but awesome - that I was running a marathon. And I'm doing it for him! Any amount of donation to support me and this cause is greatly appreciated!
Five years ago, I could probably not even run a single mile. Then, about 3 years ago, I decided to run a 5K. So I trained and I trained and I ran my first 5K in Arlingon, VA in April 2010. Then, somehow, after saying I would never be able to run more than 3.1 miles, I registered for a half marathon with some friends in Disneyworld. And I trained and I trained and I did it! I ran all 13.1 miles through Orlando and got to meet Aladdin afterwards. It was MAGICAL! And now, Justin and I have committed to running an enitre marathon. I'm still extremely scared of this endeavor, but I've been running regularly to get ready for a long winter of training. And with UJ in mind, I always keep pushing to be my best.
