BENEFITING: New River Conservancy
National Committee for the New River (NCNR) is teaming up with General Electric (GE) in West Jefferson and the New River State Park to offer the First Annual New River Paddle-A-Thon on July 13, 2013!
Team S'UP dawgs pledged to paddle 5 miles on the Wild and Scenic New River in NC on our STRIDE SUPs. These are Stand Up Paddleboards (SUPs) made by STRIDE, a local company http://www.ridestride.com.
Participants ask friends and family to donate per mile paddled. We are hoping for $2/mile....The funds raised from this event will help NCNR carry out programs that protect the New River, which include river clean-ups, water quality monitoring, river and stream bank restoration, and land acquisition that increases public access to the river.
Local residents, families, and river lovers of all types will come out to enjoy our treasured resource for fun, and will also spread the word about taking care of our New River through this collaborative fundraising effort. And, Paddle-A-Thon participants will rewarded with a variety of prizes, based on the amount of money they raise through the event, for helping NCNR introduce more peopled to our beautiful river and raise more money to protect this precious resource.
