1,446 holiday meals raised to far! Thank you!
November 29, 2016
In FY2016-2017 we hope to serve more than 480,000 nutritious prepared meals to children, families, seniors and the homeless.
In keeping with the theme of Silicon Valley innovation, we reinvented ourselves to “Soup Kitchen 2.0” (watch the video to your left to see our transformation). Instead of feeding a few hundred people at our facilities we now serve and deliver 37,000 meals per month in a 60-mile radius at a cost of $2.50 per meal.
We partner with 25 nonprofits and deliver to dozens of locations including churches, community centers, low-income apartment buildings, and other nonprofit partners where our clients are receiving additional services. As word spreads of our new delivery model, we are getting weekly requests for new meal delivery locations.
In 2015 Loaves & Fishes won an Innovative Partner award and in 2016 the Hunger Hero Award from Second Harvest Food Bank. The Silicon Valley Business Journal awarded Loaves & Fishes the Community Impact Award, one of only two selected from the thousands of nonprofits in the Bay Area. In July 2016, we were selected as a semi-finalist for the Drucker Innovation Award from a nation-wide pool of applicants for change that creates a new dimension in performance.
Loaves & Fishes is committed to nutritionally balanced prepared meals, and is one of the few soup kitchens in Northern California that emphasizes fresh fruits and vegetables, along with healthy protein items, rather than canned or processed foods that tend to be high in sugar and/or sodium. Special meals are prepared on holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, providing warmth and compassion to those in need. These meals are an opportunity for those who face poverty and/or homelessness to enjoy a hot meal while spending the holiday with others.
