My little boy turns 6 year old this month. He has been asking for a dog of his very own for a couple of years and this year he has been going to our friends house weekly to pick up after her dog and earn his privilege to be a pet owner. He has known for months that he would be bringing home his new friend for his birthday. He has been visiting the Animal Shelter every Friday as well to get acquainted and comfortable with as many dogs as possible before he has to pick one to be his best buddy. But he surprised me this year with a level of compassion I'm not used to seeing in 6 year olds on a regular basis. He said to me "mom, I have so many toys from Christmas, and I really just my friend, would it be okay if my birthday list this year was for the dogs who don't get homes?" After I cried for a minute (yes im one of those sappy moms) I told him of course he could make a birthday list for the animal shelter. I assured him I would do all I could to let people know about his plan. We talked with the shelter that we have visited so frequently over the last six months and have asked them about their needs. He is hoping to donate a few items and some money to the shelter on his birthday March 30th. He has worked so hard and has already raised over $100 on his own from friends and family and his school teachers. This is the next logical way I could think of to get his mission out there. If you would like to help he would be so grateful!
