Louisa Carey's Graduate Gemologist, Equipment Fund
Organized by: Jean PSmith

Louisa Carey is one of THOSE people. You probably know someone that burns the candle at both ends and maybe in the middle too? That's Louisa. She works ALL the time, AND takes courses in Gemology, AND leads an awesome kids gem and mineral group (Pebble Pups) for Oxnard Gem & Mineral Society. She also holds a board position there- and has done so for many years. One of her duties is to attend CFMS meetings in various parts of California- which means devoting long weekends and driving hundreds of miles to do so. Louisa is also dog mom to a sweet little border collie named Harley, who is with Louisa wherever she goes. Now add to this that Louisa is also single, and tries to fit in some personal time once in a while, and you will see just how densely packed her life is! She is getting closer to completing her Graduate Gemologist degree, but mentioned the other day that it can be slow going because sometimes she has to borrow equipment to get the work done. So in order to help make Louisa's life a little easier, some of the OGMS members decided that we would set up a fund raiser to help her purchase some of the tools that will make her life easier. The GIA website shows some of equipment that the students can purchase and it is kind of pricey! However, the students get a good discount, so we figure that $2000 should be able to get her a good selection of gear. So if you are a friend of Louisa's or an OGMS club member, Pebble Pup parent or someone that wants to see a very cool, hard-working gal succeed, please donate what you can!
