THE STORY:

Hi Crowd Rise Family,

I'd like to tell you about Nathan Sanders, a 28 year old man who was born with the most rare form of PFFD. This is a disease in which the child has a shortened femur on one side or in Nathan's case NO FEMUR in either leg (the long hip bone)! Nathan spent most of his childhood growing up in Greenville Children's Hospital. He has endured over 28 surgeries on his hips/knees/legs. This has not held Nathan back as he continues to live his life the best and most exciting way that he can. It is Nathan's intention to live an exciting life while inspiring his 8 year old daughter, MacKenzie, to NEVER GIVE UP ON HER DREAMS.

Recently, Nathan lost his full time job at a major retailer and shortly after this financial hardship, the wheelchair that he depends on for mobility literally BROKE IN HALF! Now, with no job, no money, and no insurance (medicare/Medicaid, SSI/disability was stopped) Nathan's wife is the only one currently working to financially make ends meet while trying to save whatever they can for his chair. After countless applications with no call backs for interviews, Nathan knew that he had to do something to make a change, so he and his family have created LOOKMOMNOLEGS a website, facebook and youtube channel to help educate and inform those who do not understand about living life with a disability. He shares what it is like from his point of view to live life in a wheelchair and what it feels like to have people stare and point at him as if he is a 'monster'.

Friends of Nathan's recently started a campaign to raise funds for a custom built WCMX wheelchair by Mike Box of BOX WHEELCHAIRS. Since the couple has such a small family, the community of Brevard, N. Carolina came together to help raise money for Nathan's new wheelchair and in doing so, several people have mentioned to Nathan how much he has inspired them to keep going and moving and to never give up, This initial small fundraiser has turned into more than just a wheelchair donation. Nathan has started speaking to groups of people and youth groups about the challenges of being "different". With such a supportive community he began to travel outside of Brevard and do new and adventurous things with his family. A few celebrities have participated and donated to Nathan's cause (Videos can be viewed at youtube.com/lookmomnolegs) In hopes of keeping him rolling to raise awareness across the United States.

With all of this in mind, the very first thing that we must do is get the chair that Nathan desperately needs built and Mr. Mike Box is willing to do so. Nathan will need to make a trip to Norco, California (near L.A) to be fitted since his hips are set differently than a healthy persons. It will then take approximately 8 weeks to build. This trip to California will cost nearly $3,000 and a week off from work for his wife. Once Nathan returns it is his desire to continue educating and inspiring others through his personal abilities beginning with The COLORVIBE 5K in Greenville, SC. At this time, Nathan is the only registered wheelchair participant for the OCTOBER 18th, 2014 event.

This is where we request YOUR ASSISTANCE in completing the fundraising for Nathan's wheelchair so far he has about half of the needed amount of the chair, but he truly needs travel/lodging/food expenses for his family and any amount raised above this will go towards Nathan's dream of starting Look Mom No Legs as an educational and inspirational non profit organization. Nathan stated "If I can just help keep one more person from experiencing the horrible circumstances that my family has, then it will be my way of paying it forward and giving back"

Please help and start donating today and follow along on Nathan's YouTube site for videos and updates throughout this adventure. What an incredible way to help others learn disability awareness and educate future generations!

Thank You,
Team Look Mom No Legs
