On Sunday, November 11, star…

On Sunday, November 11, starting at 9 am, I’ll be running 26.2 miles in the Boise area in lieu of the NYC marathon, which was cancelled last week due to Hurricane Sandy. Several areas of New York City were devastated by the storm, and thousands remain without basic necessities as the cold weather moves in.

The Alternate NYC Marathon Route – Boise Edition map will be posted on our website by Thursday - www.lplearningcenter.org. The route begins at Lee Pesky Learning Center on 3324 Elder Street in Boise at 9 am, goes straight down Vista to Kootenai and Beacon, picks up the greenbelt East to highway 21, circles back around on the greenbelt to Idaho River Sports, and then back towards Capitol where I'll have to run up hill! to end at the center. We’ve set up this alternate route in order to thank donors for their contributions in support of our “Running for Learning” campaign. Thank you.

I’m also running in Boise to raise awareness for the devastation that continues to impact the East Coast. The effects of the hurricane will be felt long after the immediate aftermath - thousands are homeless, schools are closed, supplies are limited – and the road to recovery will be long and difficult. Several organizations, to include Americares, http://www.americares.org, the Red Cross, http://www.redcross.org, and the United Way http://www.unitedway.org, are providing direct relief to Hurricane victims. Consider making a donation to support relief efforts today. Thank you!

Hello Everyone, By now you …
Hello Everyone,

By now you may have heard the news that the NYC marathon was cancelled this year. Mayor Bloomberg made the announcement on Friday at 6pm Eastern that the priority for the city was to provide relief to people impacted by Hurricane Sandy. It was a difficult decision, but the right one to make. I flew in on Thursday since at that time the race was still officially moving forward. While the area is working to recover every day, thousands of people lost their homes, are still without power, and without fuel, food and other supplies. Relief efforts are moving quickly to help, but it will be a long time before the area recovers.

No one could have foreseen this disaster when I started training earlier this summer. In honor of your generosity and the wonderful display of support, I will be running the 26.2 miles in Idaho on Sunday, November 11 beginning at 9 am at Lee Pesky Center on Elder Street in Boise. We are still working out the details of the course, but we’ll post them on our website and share via email with you later this week. The silver lining is that in a field of one, I'll likely achieve my lifelong dream of placing first in a marathon!

Thank you again for your support, and I’ll be in touch with the “NYC marathon – alternate Boise route” soon.
