We just recently became aware of Joseph Penrod and his battle with Duchenne; and he has truly inspired us.
Joseph is a 5th grader at Oakley Park. He came to our recent Medieval Cup game against Walled Lake Northern and inspired our Varsity team to play their best game yet. We are now part of his Team. This is his story:
Joseph was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at age 5. As most boys are growing stonger and gaining independence, boys with Duchenne are losing muscle function and mobility (99% of all new cases each year are boys). Formed around the fight of Joseph (son of Marissa and Jeff-Walled Lake Central teacher & coach), Team Joseph began with a mom who wouldn't let her son be defined by his diagnosis. And with the support of family, friends and an army of volunteers, Team Joseph has evolved into the movement it is today.
Please become part of the movement.
