52.4 miles... Check!
August 02, 2016
BENEFITING: MICHAEL J FOX FOUNDATION FOR PARKINSONS RESEARCH
EVENT DATE: Jul 31, 2016
On July 31 at 12:01 a.m, I will run my first 26.2 mile marathon course in the reverse direction (beginning at the finish line and running to the starting line). Then at 5:30 a.m., I will join the San Francisco Full Marathon participants and run my second 26.2 miles (beginning at the starting line and running to the finish line). That's a total of 52.4 miles in under 12 hours!
Over the years, many of you have helped me to raise over $10,000 to assist in cancer research, suicide prevention, and AIDS research & treatment. This time, I'd like to champion a cause even closer to my heart. My mom was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2003. Since then, she has slowly lost her sense of balance, developed constant tremors, and experienced difficulty controlling her movements. She is still very sharp mentally though and recently finished the entire Mandarin course on Rosetta Stone! I admire her acceptance of challenges no matter how difficult they may be, her determination to do as much for herself as possible, and her steadfast sense of humor. She has inspired me to appreciate my own physical capabilities & has sparked a drive within me to continue to challenge myself. It is for her that I have chosen to run and that I have pledged to raise $2000 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today.
I will show my commitment to my mom and to the organization by running the 52.4miles. She believes I can do it. I believe I can do it. Thank you for your support!
