In 2009 I traveled South America doing volunteer work along the way and I spent a month in Cordoba, Argentina where I found a geriatric home that was in dire need of assistance and attention. When I got back to the states, I couldn't get them out of my head and realized that is the case in many elderly homes around the world. So I started Los Abuelitos, a non-profit grassroots effort, to support these populations and homes and bring them daily needs (clothes, bedding, toiletries, medicine, etc) along with volunteers who have a special skill to give (healthcare works, art therapists, even just people with an interest to chat with some super neglected, but AMAZING and interesting elderly people in Spanish). I originally focused on finding physical, occupational, home, etc therapists to go individually or in teams and give free therapy, but realized these people need ANY kind of help and attention they can get from ANYONE. We currently have opportunities in Cordoba, Argentina and Pisco, Peru and are looking for others!
