Our Mission

Support our mission by creating your own fundraiser.

Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches (LAM) is a faith-based organization, established in 1994 after the 1992 LA Riots, by a core group of pastors, with a mission to “train and develop the capacity of religious and lay leaders in congregations across Los Angeles to play an active role in the revitalization of their communities, with an emphasis on the provision of services that impact the lives of children.”  The concept of LAM is simple, yet innovative and effective.  It is based on the fact that the church has always been the most stable, trusted and respected institution in the African American community. The poorest, minorities and new immigrants, suffer disproportionately as a result of injustice, violence, middle class flight, loss of minimum wage and manufacturing jobs, lack of affordable housing, deterioration of schools, among other serious problems.  LAM exists to reverse this downward spiral. LAM collaborates with a number of local, regional and national organizations, academic institutions, private and public agencies.  LAM staff and leadership teams serve as an essential catalyst, an ongoing support system and a source of valuable research information for their member congregations. In so doing, LAM is able to leverage large numbers of volunteers and to attract financial resources to be applied to community improvement on a significant scale. In 2010, National Committee on Responsible Philanthropy reported on LAM as one of 15 organizations with measurable rate of return on investment in LAM. For every $100.00 invested in LAM, public receives $91.00 in public benefits.
