We are a group of runners, some who know each other, some who've never met. But we all have one thing in common: we're kinda crazy! Join us on our 199 mile journey from Calistoga to Santa Cruz...read on for what it's all about.
Since 1995, the transfer of the baton from runner to runner has symbolized the transfer of an organ from donor to recipient. The Relay has been dedicated to transplant recipients, candidates, organ donors and donor families participating as runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators.
FOUNDED in 1996, Organs 'R' Us ("ORU"), nonprofit Tax ID 94-3333306, promotes the need for organ donors. Through walking and running, transplant recipients, candidates, organ donors, donor family members and others have generated $25 million of publicity promoting organ donation. Although started in the San Francisco Bay Area, ORU has grown throughout the US. Through participation in athletic events selected for maximum publicity and fun, this group showcases their fitness proving that organ transplantation saves lives.
Pledge your support for 100,000 Americans (including 2,500 children) waiting for organs. Twenty die each day before a donor is found. Since communicating a desire to donate will allow grieving relatives to make an informed decision, ORU encourages family discussions, not about death, but about offering a life saving gift.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.
