BENEFITING: THE LOUISIANA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
ORGANIZER: THE LOUISIANA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
Dear friends and family,
You may not know this, but I've got an impulsive side. When an idea is good and feasible, I jump in without a lot of thought. Dinner in Mississippi? Why not. Trip to Buenos Aires? Coming April 2015! Walk in a 10K to support one of our favorite New Orleans' art organizations? Sure thing.
On Friday morning, at 6:00 a.m., while Garren was in the shower, I walked in and said, "Hey, do you want to walk the Crescent City Classic 10K marathon with me, to raise money for the Louisiana Philharmonic Association? We'd have to raise $200 each, and it'd be a great way to get in walking shape for our upcoming trip to Buenos Aires."
Because it was 6:00 a.m. and Garren wasn't fully awake, he agreed. Later on, Friday evening, he began to have second thoughts. But he'd signed up, and so we're committed to doing this!
Garren and I are each responsible for raising a minimum of $200 for the LPO - for a total of $400. It's a guarantee - we either raise it, or we pay it ourselves. That's how committed we are to this challenge.
BUT... I also want to up the ante. I think our friends and family are a generous lot, and that if we ask (which we are), we can raise AT LEAST $1,000 to support the LPO.
We know people like Kickstarter because they get cool things to support people. We don't have crazy products to mail out for supporting us, but we'd like to say thanks in our own, special ways:
Donate $10 - We'll drink a beer on your behalf at the CCC Charity Afterparty and Instagram it
Donate $25 - We'll send you a sweet postcard from Buenos Aires
Donate $100 - Ashley + Garren will get over their fear of talking to strangers, approach a musician at an LPO Prelude event, and get their picture taken with them.
Donate $200 - We'll bring back an awesome souvenir for you from Buenos Aires - a stunning bottle of Argentinian wine, or something beautiful and specific to you.
Now, you may be asking, "Why support the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra? Why not support another worthy charity?" These past few years, I've been remembering the redemptive power of music. Garren and I are both very creative people, but music was never the focus of our artistic pursuits. As we've gotten older, we're remembering the power of live music, and the LPO has been instrumental in that.
Arts programming is often the first one cut when budgets are tightened. Arts education is often first cut from the school curriculum. As my favorite president, FDR said, "Art is not a treasure in the past or an importation from another land, but part of the present life of all living and creating peoples." The power of art is one of the things I believe most passionately in in life, and I'm asking for your support.
To donate & support Ashley's goal:
To donate & support Garren's goal:
We're collecting donations until April 3, as the race day is April 4th.
You can support one of us, both of us, or neither of us - we won't be offended! But we'd love to have the support of our friends and family as we try something new. My goals of 2015 are: "Less stuff, more experiences" and "To let love and kindness guide my actions." We hope you'll support us and those goals of the year.
Thanks for reading this far, and we love you!
