THE STORY:

(Letter from Lucretia)

Hello Everyone!
You all have met my mother, Louise. Mom has extremely limited mobility now. On top of the cancer that has been eating away at her for the past 14 years, she has had both knees replaced within the past few years, and now needs her left ankle replaced. She is scheduled to have it replaced at Duke University Medical Center on Nov 7th. My mother is a very private person and will smile and tell you that she feels fine when is reality she is hurting so badly she wants to scream at the top of her lungs.
Monday July 28, 2014 I took her to the ER for what turned out to be food poison. After our return home early the following morning she fell in her bathroom. Luckily I didn’t listen to her and I was there to call for help. Needless to say I have not let her be alone in the house since. I stay at night and others stay during the day while I am at work and taking care of things. She can walk with a walker approximately 5 feet before having to stop and sit. These mobility issues have made it necessary for her to have a wheel chair to be able to move in her home as well as outside the home. She is unable to stand for very long due to the ankle and other issues.
Ok to the point…..I NEED HELP……I NEED YOUR HELP….I NEED YOU TO HELP ME HELP MY MOM. I need to try and give her a bathroom that she can get in and out of and move around in in a wheelchair so that she can have some since of privacy and normalness again.
I love my mother and will do anything for her, but I can’t do this on my own.
I am asking that if any of you are able to donate to the cost of the materials and fixtures or if your Post would like to hold a fund raiser for her (Louise Rivenbark) I would forever be grateful. It is rare for me to be so humble and let my guard down and ask this, but I have no one else to turn to except my AMVETS family.
I thank you all for your love and support through my years with this organization, but now I am asking for this one thing not for myself but for my Mom.
I have most labor for the renovation donated by her church and a portion of the lumber for the framing that is needed to extend the bathroom to accommodate the shower size needs. I have some plumbing items to relocate the drain and supply lines for the shower. The donations would go for the following: sheetrock, cement board, tile, grout, plumbing fixtures, wheelchair access, vanity, paint, etc. We need Approx $10,000.00 to complete this project for Mom.
Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to send.
I love you all,
Lucretia (Louie) Britton
