Codie Vasquez wrote -September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Together, we can show we care by raising ten thousand dollars to help save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. If you are thankful to be alive, donate one dollar for each year of your life. If someone helped you along the way, donate one dollar for each year of their life. If you’ve ever known someone who has committed suicide, you know there’s absolutely no question suicide is a horrific tragedy. Suicide is a horribly wrong answer to whatever problems we face. A person’s pain is very real and understandable but there are healthy ways to deal with it. Suicide is not one of them. The consequences of suicide are not only that one person is dead, it’s also a tragedy for the people left behind that goes on for many, many years. Many people don't realize that help is just a phone call away and it tears at my heart to know that so many of these deaths could have been prevented. Samaritan Counseling Center provides professional psychological counseling, education and outreach programs to individuals, families and children; including community members with low-to-moderate income. Though the solicitation of donations, the center is able to offset the normally high costs associated with professional mental healthcare so that help is accessible and affordable. Funding the Fee Assistance Program, removes the financial barrier to care by allowing fees to be reduced according to each individual's needs. I am hoping to raise these "birthday funds" to support the program. Each year is a celebration for each of us. Please consider supporting this cause with any amount you feel appropriate. I challenge you to celebrate your life by donating a dollar (or 10 or 100) for every year of your life!
