BENEFITING: Nepal Orphans Home, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 22, 2014
Birthdays have always been very special to me. Whether it is others', or mine, they are days I truly embark upon. Therefore, instead of doing something special for myself this birthday, I would like to do something special for someone else. Helping a group of orphans in an orphanage in a country like Nepal, which is truly dear to me is something I strive to partake in. I want to be part of their life in any possible way I can. Therefore, for my upcoming 25th birthday in November, I want to challenge myself to raise $2500 that would help fund the education of the kids living in the orphanage.
Along with passion and love for children, I truly admire all the people who have cared for and loved me at all time of my life. People who once used to be strangers are now my dear friends and I feel blessed to call them my family, and this is also my way of saying thank you to these individuals. Their constant support and encouragement toward myself has been significantly beneficial in making me the person I am today. It makes me realize you don’t have to be blood to be family. You don’t have to do the biggest thing to make the tiniest impact in someone’s life. The idea that someone cares about you, is such a powerful thought that will push you to never give up. I want to challenge myself and others to show these kids who were orphaned or abandoned to feel that there are people out there that care about them and believe in them. They are just as able like anyone else to reach their full potentials.
Nepal Orphans Home (NOH) and Education:
I chose Nepal Orphans home and their education program need because I believe education is the greatest wealth one can obtain. Education has always been priority of mine and it is the key that will allow these kids to grow up to have a better future and equal opportunity like any one of us. In a country that is already so poor, NOH works extremely hard to not only rescue children from extreme poverty, but to enable these children to develop and realize their potentials. I believe that where you live shouldn’t govern how you live. Every child deserves to have the opportunity to have a great education, to feel safe and be well fed.
To put things in perspective, just $250 dollars covers a child’s annual cost of education. This includes their tuition fee, their school uniform, and their textbook and school supplies!
Cost of food for NOH’s current 142 children is around $1.25 per DAY. That’s less than our early morning Starbucks coffee.
Nepal Orphans Home is a 501 (C) (3) public charity and please check out their website to see all wonderful work they do at www.nepalorphanshome.org. NOH is also listed on Guidestar, a leading source of information on U.S non-profits, demonstrating its commitment to transparency. Every amount that I raise will be completely donated to NOH.
I came from the same land as these kids and sometimes life seems bit unfair when I think about I am here, and why they are there. But rather than looking at it that way, I find that it’s my privilege today that I can help them. I am neither the richest nor the most powerful but who am I comparing myself to? Compared to these kids, I am blessed with more than enough and it’s time for me to share my love and give back. So please join me in celebrating my 25th birthday and help my wish come true. I want to raise $2500 by November, so how about that #25for25 ? Even if you are not able to join my birthday celebration financially, I would still be just as grateful if you could tell your friends and family about this. Every little effort counts!
