BENEFITING: Love Runs - NorthRidge Church
ORGANIZER: Love Runs - NorthRidge Church
EVENT DATE: Oct 15, 2017
DAYS TO GO: 59
It's no secret that I love to run. It's what keeps me balanced and sane. For a while now, I've felt God calling me to use my running for something more. When I happened across some information about Love Runs, I immediately felt compelled. I was already planning to run the Detroit half in October, but I wondered if I could raise that much money. I'd have to think about it. A few days later I listened to a sermon while on a run. The pastor asked, "how can you leverage ________ for love?" I spend so much time running, that's the obvious answer to fill in my blank. Maybe this is a way I can leverage running for love.
I'd been hearing about human trafficking for while. The first time I heard about it, I couldn't believe it was true. Here?...in the US? No way. But I kept hearing more and more until I realized it was true. It's horrible, it's unbelievable, and it's unacceptable.
So, I'm going to do this run/fundraising thing. But I'm not doing another half marathon. I'm trying the full - that's 26.2 miles. That's double the distance that I usually run and it's something I've never done. It's intimidating, but I hope it will help someone.
How can you help? Prayer would be great - pray for the victims, for their families, for the resources they need to escape, and even for the people who enslave them - pray that their hearts will soften. And if you feel compelled to donate - a little or a lot or something in between - any amount helps. I'm hoping to raise $1440 - one dollar for each minute of the day that a victim is enslaved. Your donation is tax-deductible and goes directly to helping with the rescue and restoration of human trafficking victims in metro Detroit.

1440. The number of minutes in every day that a human trafficking victim is enslaved, and the same number of minutes we are free. What will you do with it? Join us in the fight to end human trafficking in Metro Detroit.
