BENEFITING: WATER FOR SOUTH SUDAN
EVENT DATE: Jan 15, 2016
Seventh grade Social Studies students at Lowell Middle School are looking to raise money to help build a well in South Sudan. In 7th grade, we read A Long Walk to Water, a book based on the true story of Salva Dut, a Sudanese refugee who faced unthinkable challenges in the fight to survive. He came to the US, but returned to Sudan in order to bring clean, fresh water to the people of his country. We, at Lowell Middle School were touched by Salva's story and were inspired to help. The cost of drilling a well is $15,000, but our students decided to start with a more attainable goal of $1000. Any amount will help this organization continue to bring something that every human deserves to have: clean, safe water.
Update 3/4/16: Well, we not only beat our goal of $1000, but reached $2000 in just one month. My students are setting their sights on a higher goal...$15,000 to actually install a well in Southern Sudan through Water for South Sudan. We would appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you, Mrs. H.
