BENEFITING: EPILEPSY FOUNDATION OF GREATER CINCINNATI
EVENT: Choose Your Own Event*
EVENT DATE: Nov 30, 2015
I started this Epilepsy awareness journey in 2011 when my son was diagnosed with Epilepsy. My husband has it also but I was so ignorant of the facts etc.... my son developing it woke me up. My husband's epilepsy is well controlled now. My son was 11 years old when he had his first seizure in 2010. I was devastated because I knew what this meant (because of seeing my husband go through this). He had his 2nd seizure April 2011 and the long hard journey began. He has struggled with several seizures, 5 different seizure medications, weight gain, weight loss, fatigue/drowsiness, slowed function, delayed drivers license just to name a few. It has been a roller coaster ride, to say the least. My son is now 16 years old and has been seizure free for a year, which is awesome! Unfortunately, current meds have caused him to gain 30 lbs! He is very active, which is great but no amount of activity seems to help with his weight. He is a 4th Degree Black Belt, he plays soccer for his high school and he is currently working on his Eagle project for Epilepsy Foundation Benton Center now! I felt that so many people still have no idea what epilepsy is, how to deal with it etc. I felt this was my calling - to raise awareness and money where I could. My family did the Mason 5K run/walk last year. Our martial arts school, Martial Arts America, did a fundraiser last year through Athletes vs. Epilepsy and raised about $1400 and of course my family is doing the Mason 5K walk/run again and the reason I started this fundraising webpage - so friends and families can donate on our behalf and not have to run/walk. PLEASE donate and help us raise money and awareness for this cause!!
