BENEFITING: FRIENDS INTERNATIONAL INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 05, 2013
This is the fund-raising page for Michael Gilmore participating in the Luang Prabang Half Marathon, to be held on Saturday October 5th, 2013.
Luang Prabang is a uniquely beautiful town, but many inhabitants and those of surrounding areas are very poor: it would be a shame to accept the hospitality of this special place, and not give something back...
As a result, Michael is donating to Friends International, an award-winning NGO that specialises in helping children at risk across the world, often in the form of sustainable social enterprises. To find out more about Friends International in general, please take a look at their website here or at their operations in Laos here. You can also find more details of the initiative they plan to start in Luang Prabang on the race website here.
We are hoping to raise enough funds with our run to enable Friends International to open a new project in Luang Prabang - and leave something really beneficial behind us.
The picture on the right was taken in one of the classrooms of their vocational training centre in Vientiane: it would be great if our run could create the same kind of positive impact for Luang Prabang:
USD2 feeds a student for a day.
USD100 pays for a cooking teacher for a week.
USD125 pays for the student's part-time English teacher for a month
USD2000 will equip the restaurant with computers.
If you would like to take part in the run, please go to the race website. You will be very welcome to join.
If you'd rather not run, then please support Michael and any other runners you know with a generous donation.
