BENEFITING: Achilles International Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
Three years ago I ran my first race. It was a 5K and I couldn't even run the entire way without stopping to walk, but I was still hooked. Since then I've logged over 1,700 miles, including 110 miles-worth (and counting) of official races. Running went from something I dreaded to being a major part of my life. And now, I'm training to run my first Marathon. It will be a huge accomplishment, but it will be nothing compared to the accomplishments of the group of athletes I run with every Tuesday.
For the past year, I've been spending my Tuesday nights logging miles as a volunteer with the athletes of Achilles International. This group proves every week that having a physical and mental disbality doesn't mean anything when it comes to running. With the help of Achilles and its volunteers, countless blind, autistic, and physically handicapped runners have been able to race competivitely in road and cycling races from 5ks to marathons!
Whenever I feel like something is holding me back from doing a work out (it's hot, rainy, I'm tired), I think of what these inspiring runners have overcome to achieve their goals and I'm able to move past my own small discomforts.
So this year, while I won't be guiding during the marathon, I'll still be running it in their honor.
Please consider making a contribution to support me! Your donation will go directly to Achilles International, where it will support these athletes by providing entry fees, transportation, and accomdation for races as well as training programs, gear, and outreach support.
Help keep these amazing athletes of Achilles and Achilles Kids running!
