THE STORY:

Who am I?
My name is April Buscher and I'm a board certified music therapist and Berklee College of Music graduate. I run a pilot program by Lucy's Love Bus called "The Healing Room" at Floating Hospital for Children, which incorporates music therapy directly into the oncology setting.

What do I do?
I work directly with patients and families visiting the clinic, as well as those who remain inpatient at the hospital, using a variety of music therapy activities including: songwriting, instrument playing, singing, and lyric substitution. My main goals are to promote self awareness, coping mechanisms, social interaction, motor skills, and emotional well-being.

I can often be found: Singing in the waiting room, leading activities in the main transfusion room, visiting patients one on one in their rooms, and supporting staff by engaging patients during examinations to lessen anxiety and distract from pain.

Why do I work for Lucy's Love Bus?
On the personal side of things, I've had surgeries in four children's hospitals across the country and feel strongly from both a personal and professional standpoint about the importance of integrative therapies. Hospitals can be scary, draining, stressful..we can help!

I'm proud to be part of Lucy's Love Bus!

Delivering Comfort...Until a Cure.

Lucy's Love Bus helps those kids with cancer for whom a cure might come too late; those who are in active treatment, or who are off treatment and suffering from the late effects cancer leaves behind. Our funds have been used for massage, acupuncture, yoga, therapeutic horseback riding, karate, dance, gymnastics, music/art, and many more!

Lucy Grogan was 8 years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Lucy learned about the benefits of integrative therapies such as massage, acupuncture, art therapy, and therapeutic horseback riding during her treatment.

When Lucy was 11, she told her mother that when she was "done with cancer" she wanted to start a program that would provide free integrative therapies to all children with cancer to help manage the side effects and late effects of traditional cancer treatment. Since 2006, our generous supporters have helped us deliver love and comfort to over 300 children with cancer.
