Lucy’s Love Bus delivers comfort and quality of life to children (birth to 21) with cancer throughout New England by providing referrals and access to free integrative therapies. We believe that pediatric cancer patients deserve easy access to therapies that help balance the painful side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, until science and medicine are able to provide a cure. We're here to help the world's bravest children, who need our love and support right now.
Each year, the federal government devotes $5 billion to cancer research in the United States. Of thosefunds, only 3.8% is allocated to childhood cancers. Due to the gross disparity in funding, only 2 new chemotherapy drugs have been developed specifically for childhood cancers since the 1990s. Pediatric oncologists have no option but to treat children with cancer drugs that were designed for and tested on adults. Most childhood cancer protocols are still highly experimental in nature and often result in debilitating side effects for children.
We award an average of $1000 in funding to those diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21, either in active treatment or suffering from late effects. Thanks to your generous support, more than 750 Love Bus heroes have experienced massage, acupuncture, yoga, therapeutic horseback riding, swimming, dance, gymnastics, karate, art, music, and more!
Cancer hurts. Love helps.
