FOR LOVE OF WATER (FLOW)
Our mission is to advance public trust solutions to save the waters of the Great Lakes Basin.
Our goals are to:
- Build deep public awareness and to educate decision makers in government, academia, business, and communities about current and future issues, threats and abuses to the waters of the Great Lakes, Public Trust Principles, and how these principles can be implemented to provide a framework for governance over these waters to protect them now and for future generations.
- Advocate for the respect of the waters of the Great Lakes Basin, the implementation of public trust principles in our governance of the Great Lakes, the protection of the Lakes themselves, the rich biodiversity they support, and the rights that belong to the people living in the Great Lakes Basin.
Ludington to Glen Haven is quite possibly the most beautiful stretch of Great Lakes Coastline there is. But while the beauty may be up for debate, this section is certainly the media darling. In 2012 the Sleeping Bear Dunes was rated America’s Most Beautiful Destination.
This segment will start from Ludington, paddling north along miles of white sand beaches and the Arcadia bluffs. Right around mid week the group will be getting close to Frankfort. From Frankfort it is a quick cruise to Point Betsie, where if it is windy, there will certainly be kiters and surfers. Once around the Point Betsie Lighthouse, it is a pretty quick run to Platte River Beach, another spectacular and unique place. From Platte River we’ll go around Esch Road Beach and up to Empire Beach. From Empire it is about an 11 mile run up along the coastline to Glen Haven.
Millions of people have now seen the Sleeping Bear Dune from shore, but how many can say they’ve paddled the full length of this gorgeous section of Michigan Coastline? This is truly a unique experience that is certain to generate memories that will last a lifetime!
