Luis Rivera comes to train at Gleason’s by way of Puerto Rico, a historic hotbed for boxing talent.
Born to a single mother he was raised in Brooklyn where he found it difficult to keep on the straight and narrow. After taking a brief hiatus from school, Luis fought hard to get it together and eventually earn his GED.
His determination to do better for himself and his family led him to continue hitting the books and successfully complete his college degree, something he considers on his greatest achievements.
Given his tenacious spirit and credo of working smarter, not harder, this father of five (he considers his children an even greater achievement of course) welcomes the challenge of juggling parenthood, work and training. In fact, he hopes this experience will be the start of career in boxing as he aspires to turn pro someday. His persistence and drive has taken him far already and if nothing else, Luis is never one to give up on his dreams.
His own ambitions aside, Rivera believes in supporting charities, especially those that work towards improving the wellbeing of children.
He serves locally in his East New York community and is held in high regard by the local youth. And rightfully so. He strives to be a role model to the children and encourages them to follow their dreams and soar to great heights, always believing in themselves and fulfilling their goals. Much like he did.
Ultimately he hopes to return to Puerto Rico one day to share his story of hope, glory and positivity.
