BENEFITING: LuMind Research Down Syndrome Foundation
ORGANIZER: LuMind Research Down Syndrome Foundation
EVENT DATE: Jul 31, 2016
I'm running the San Francisco Marathon on July 31, 2016 in honor of my nephew Richie. He will turn 4 on July 2 and is just the happiest little toddler. Richie was born with Down syndrome. When I found out, I knew if I wanted to help I could do it through running races as a charity runner. I have completed 13 marathons and many other distances leading up to the long haul of 26.2 miles. Marathon #14 will commence in the wee hours of July 31 and I will have raised money for LuMind Research Down Syndrome.
I discovered this charity in 2012 just a few months before Richie was born. I raised money that year and ran the SF Marathon. At the finish line, someone saw my bib and realized I was running for a newborn baby. He gave me an extra medal for him. Richie was in the hospital at the time and looked pretty cool with a marathon medal hanging over his crib. He lives in Maryland and I live in California. I flew out there to give him his medal and he was relased from the hospital a few days later. It was his good luck charm! The paragraph below summarizes the mission behind this charity. My family and I are hopeful that through enough research Richie will live a very long healthy life.
