BENEFITING: LuMind Research Down Syndrome Foundation
On November 14th I will be running my fourth marathon!! The Richmond marathon!! In doing so I will be raising funds for LuMind Research Down Syndrome.
The Foundation is the worldwide leader in supporting Down syndrome cognition research. Biomedical research is aimed at developing treatments to significantly improve cognition, including memory, learning and speech, for individuals with Down syndrome. This enables them to participate more successfully in school and lead more active and independent lives. Treatments to avoid the early onset of Alzheimer's disease in persons with Down syndrome are also being explored.
Remarkable progress has already been made over a very short time. In fact, four human clinical trials have already begun, less than a decade after the support of private foundations stimulated the progress of Down syndrome cognitive research.
Your support of our RDS Runners will help translate these research initiatives into a reality.
WHY I run for RDS: As so many of you already know, my Uncle John has Down Syndrome. He has always been one of the brightest lights and biggest cheerleaders in my life. I am so blessed to have him. I want nothing more than to cross the finish line on November 14th knowing that I have helped others like him live life to their full potential. I know he (Along with my Aunt Roz and Uncle Mike) will be tracking my progress on race day and I want to make them proud! Running for RDS gives me a new motivation behind the 26.2 miles and I can't wait to call him and tell him I did it!
Thank you all for the support no matter how big or small, I appreciate each of you!
