Infusion IV for wife.
March 29, 2016
BENEFITING: LUPUS LA
EVENT DATE: Sep 11, 2016
My name is Robert Perez and my wife has lupus, along with several other health issues that are usually associated with lupus. She struggles with pain daily, making everyday activities that healthy people normally accomplish easily, extremely strenuous on her body. No one but me will hear my wife cry herself to sleep because of her pain, as I lay helplessly next to her not being able to ease her pain. My wife and I have seven children and she hides her pain from them so that the kids try and live normal lives. She is a hero because she wakes up in pain and goes to sleep in pain, yet she manages to be a great mother and wife. Like many with lupus, she puts on a smile for our children and to the public in an attempt to masquerade that she feels broken inside.
For the millions of people suffering with Lupus, there are no cures for this disease; the only thing that the doctors can do are to prescribe medications that can alleviate the symptoms of the autoimmune illness. Some medication works for people, while some people take the medication with very little comfort. Towards the end of December 2015, my wife and I saw a show about the 2015 Ironman contest. My wife was amazed of the sacrifice that these athletes put their bodies through in order to complete the challenge and I thought to myself, as my wife lay next to me watching this show, “my wife will never be able to complete anything like this, but I can if I commit myself.” I told my wife that I wanted to attempt the Ironman triathlon, and I wanted to complete it in honor of my wife. Then I started thinking about all of the people with lupus that will never be able to complete the race, so I decided that I was going to compete for them also. I want to create a list of people fighting lupus or that have passed from lupus and I intend to complete the race for them. I will write their names on paper and if I have too many names I will enter all their names on flash drive and from start to finish, I will carry all of those names with me until we all cross the finish line together. I have never competed in a triathlon, nor am I a professional athlete. The only thing that I have is my iron will to try and complete the challenge and spread lupus awareness. I started my training on January 2, 2016, (only because the gym was closed on January 1st), and have been slowly increasing my swim, bicycle and running strength in order to complete a half triathlon; which starts off with a 1.2 mile swim followed by a 56 mile bike ride and finishing off with a 13.1 run that must be completed in 8 hours and 30 minutes.
Please help me spread lupus awareness in order to find a cure. 100% of all proceeds earned, after expenses, will be donated to Lupus L.A. Help us find a cure.
I am not doing this for money or for fame. My only goal is to have the love of my life, my wife, live a long and pain free life with our children and me.
