~~My daughter, Kylie, was diagnosed with Lupus when she was only nine years old. From the young age of three, she displayed many different symptoms; it started with pain in her right hip then progressed to unexplained fevers, severe fatigue, and just generally feeling ill off and on without a specific reason. It took my persistence and Dr. Amy Star, a wonderful, caring and compassionate doctor at The Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, to properly diagnose her and begin treatment. Since there currently is not a test for Lupus it must be diagnosed through ruling-out all other possible ailments. She underwent numerous testing; lab, x-rays, full body scans, MRIs, ect. To this day, Kylie, age 18 on May 16, 2014, still suffers everyday with the vast symptoms that Lupus can cause. This is why it is imperative that we raise awareness about Lupus and money to help fund programs and services for lupus patients and their families and to boost research to find effective treatments and possibly a cure one day. With your help, we can improve diagnosis and treatment, as well as support for families and friends affected by the disease.
