1500 people die of cancer in America each day (and it has been happening for decades.) Time to think and fund differently.
As a Patient Advocate for Mayo for more than a fourteen years, I am on a 1500 day, one post a day, mission to help raise awareness and money. All past posts found here on blogspot:
This is more than just an American issue and we need worldwide support. Cancer Kills almost 8 million, wordlwide, annually.
Almost 19 years ago, my wife Janice was diagnosed with 'incurable' lymphoma, now at 49 she was diagnosed with breast cancer at Day 311 of this "1500 Days Cancer" effort. As Mayo's Patient Advocate for their lymphoma SPORE they have asked my help to rasie money. Targeted money. Specific money. So that is why I started this 1500 Day effort. We need to give differently, it isn't working as well as it can. This effort puts the money right to the researchers without one nickel going to someone's salary or advertising or overhead.
"Some of your life savings to save lives."
The Lymphoma SPORE. is split between the Mayo Clinic and University of Iowa. SPORE stands for Specialized Programs of Research Excellence.
There are two Principle Investigators, both world known:
Dr. Tom Witzig (Mayo Clinic. Here is a video of Tom explaining a Vitamin D study being done with the SPORE)
Dr. George Weiner (Univeristy of Iowa. Head of the Holden Cancer Center. Here is a video of George explaining the importance of the center.)
I chose 1500 Days because that is the number of Americans who die ever day of cancer. We need to think and act differently. Your gifts will allow the best in cancer to focus on the specific projects they think will save lives. This is what Crowd Funding is, it is powerful, focused, and the future, to pinpoint precisely your money rather than blindly giving to a charity in hopes the money will get to the right place let alone the right people. Not only will this money get to the right people it will get to the right projects. This is how we will end cancer.
Please help, you will think my goals may be too high but we spend millions on Tomahawk missiles and billions on one stealth bomber to fight the bad guys. The bad guy is here, in our lives, killing our family and friends at a shocking rate. Its name is Cancer and needs to be put down...by thinking and doing things differently.
A donation to this effort goes directly to Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, the PI is Dr. Thomas Witzig, leading expert as well as co-PI Dr. George Weiner from the University of Iowa, Head of the Holden Cancer Center. Thanks for your help for the funding to adance the science. The right science by the right people at the right time.
