BENEFITING: Imerman Angels
So, I guess I'm having a mid-life crisis! Last fall I decided to sign-up for the 2017 Chicago Marathon with Team Imerman Angels. Crazy you say? Yes, because I really don't like to run!
When I hit the Register Now button I wasn't sure exactly why I was doing it other than my absolutely insane friend Julie had just run the 2016 marathon and was so enthusiastic about the race and Imerman Angels that I drank the Kool-Aid. I bought a treadmill, fixed some body issues with physical therapy and started logging some miles. Things started getting clearer as I stared at the minutes and miles going by. I don't talk about my dad very often but he died from cancer shortly before my 17th birthday. I have lived a lifetime without him. Ironically he died at the young age of 48 and when I cross that finish line I too will be 48. These 26.2 miles are me living life for the both of us.
I started training with Chicago Endurance Sports in June and this past weekend I tackled 12 miles so I guess it's official, I really am doing this! I have met some wonderful runners from from both CES and Team Imerman Angels which makes the mileage a lot easier. Imerman Angels is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide personalized connections that enable one-on-one support among cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers. In 2016, Team Imerman Angels participants raised over $300,000 and created nearly 900 connections between those impacted by cancer and a Mentor Angel. To learn more about this great organization:
I couldn't be prouder of my journey and I am super excited to be raising money for this amazing organization. Please consider helping me reach my fundraising goal and THANK YOU!
