Dear supporters of Obi, As …
Dear supporters of Obi,

As of this moment, the Crowdrise campaign to help Obi see has raised nearly $2100 of the $5500 goal. As you may recall, Obi needed two eye surgeries to see. The first surgery was to fix is eyelids which curled in and rubbed against his eyes and the second was to fix his cataracts.

A few months ago Obi had his first eye surgery. While the initial surgery went well, there were complications. First, the cone funneled all of his drool down his neck and onto his chest. Despite me washing his chest, Obi eventually got a terrible rash and eventually needed ointment applied for a couple of weeks. Second, Obi got an infection and his lower lips swelled up with an abscess the size of a baseball. The $2100 has been able to cover the first surgery and the following doctors visits/medicines.

Since that surgery, Obi has been showing some of aggression. He bit one of my friends and he has become increasingly aggressive to the vets at the OSU vet hospital. He is less aggressive at the hospital if I am not in the room, suggesting he is very protective of me. This aggression has made me apprehensive of giving him his sight back. First, if he can see, potentially he will see everyone and everything as a threat to me or him. Right now, he is only aware of people he can smell or hear. Second, if he gets the cataract surgery, he will need many post-op checkups for the rest of his life. Going for these checkups may be difficult since he is already aggressive with vets. Giving him his sight may make him less fearful; though this is a risk I am not comfortable taking since I live in an area with small children.

Due to the possibility for more serious complications and his aggression, at this point I have decided not to fix Obi’s blindness. The OSU vets suggested this may be a good course of action and Obi is living a happy life with me. Therefore, I am going to close the crowdrise campaign. I do not want anyone to feel as though I made false promises about trying to fix Obi’s sight. Therefore, if you would like your money back I will be happy to give you a refund. Simply email me at with your name and address and I will send you a check.

I want to thank you all for your support up to this point and I hope you understand the hard choice I had to make. Obi and I appreciate all of your support.
