Team Griffin Foundation is partnering with Give Merit, a local Detroit youth-serving organization, on their Give Merit Community Park Project, a state-of-the-art multi-use facility that will serve youth from one of Detroit’s most underserved communities.
The Give Merit Community Park Project is working to address a critical need in a neighborhood that has been identified as one of the most vulnerable in the city in terms of accessibility to resources for recreation and play, a neighborhood that serves a community comprised of nearly 28% youth. The park will feature a covered basketball court, turf field, a rock-climbing wall, and green space, all of which will be open to the public for use, both through free-play and through structured community programming. The impact for the community will be significant. The expected outcomes of having a space of this magnitude include: the removal of neighborhood blight and environmental concerns, an increase in youth physical activity and free play, the opportunity for an underserved community to have access to play in their own neighborhood, the creation of a community-curated meeting space, an increase in youth learning and engagement activities, and employment opportunities to community members.
Detroit Pistons Forward Blake Griffin and his Team Griffin Foundation will be engaging fans and getting them in on the effort to help support the Give Merit Community Park Project through a fundraising campaign that will give fans a chance to win an opportunity to attend a Pistons game and meet Blake, but also gives them the opportunity to make an impact in the community.
