10 weightlifters from Madagascar earned their rightful place at the Summer Olympics in Rio, yet they have no proper shoes, no wraps for their wrists of knees, no tape, not even chalk. I met them when I was in Madagascar last year on business. As a Crossfitter/Olympic Weightlifting enthusiast, I went in search of a place to train, and stumbled into the humble, yet badass facility of the Olympic Weightlifting team in Antananarivo, complete with dirt floors, barbells, and athletes from all around the island working their hearts out, many without shoes on their feet. I thought about all my Crossfit friends in the states, who have gloves, and wraps, and knee sleeves for their *hobby* of working out. Meanwhile these Malagasy athletes barely consume enough calories to get through their workouts. They lack the support of their government, yet they come to the capital city of Antananarivo from villages all around the island, and they sleep on the coach's floor, on friends' couches, whatever it takes in pursuit of their Olympic dreams. When I was there I got all their shoe sizes and gear inventory from their coach. Now, just weeks before the beginning of the Olympic Summer Games I’m asking you get out your wallet and help me get the team all the gear they need – Nike Romaleos, Rogue wrist-wraps, Kilos Not Pounds knee-wraps, chalk and tape – help me help these guys and gals kick some ass in Rio this summer!
