I'm running the Pittsburgh Half Marathon to share with everyone that Human Rights are ALL Americans' rights and to raise money for the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Days after this year's election, I received an email from my friends Mary and Ben asking if I'd join them in spreading the message to, as Hillary said, "never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it." They wanted to go to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania—a city and swing state strongly divided both before and after the election. As a native Pennsylvanian, I wanted to go there, too. I want to stand up (and run) for all Americans' rights in a place that has shaped the core of my being and that will be central to the fight moving forward.
I'm inspired by Southern Poverty Law Center's dedication to fighting hate, teaching tolerance, seeking social justice, and championing civil rights for our countries' most vulnerable. Their work has never been more important, and I want to do all I can.
I'm asking for your help, too. Your donations and support will get me out of bed before work to pound the Brooklyn pavement and keep me going during dog-tired night runs. And your support will help those who need it most—our immigrant, black , and LGBTQ communities; our children; and all those who need aid in securing their God-given rights. Together, let's put one foot in front of the other and build a more loving, inclusive, generous, America—with liberty and justice for all.
