NYC Outward Bound Schools' Fundraiser:

The Little Village That Could: Madrid, New Mexico's Flood Relief Fund

NYC Outward Bound Schools' Photo

The tiny village of Madrid, New Mexico is home to working class artists, craftsmen and tradespeople, small business owners, war Veterans, and a few outlaws. In the true spirit of the West, our town is unincorporated, which means we have no real governing body, no taxes, no law enforcement and a lot of freedom. But it also means that when disaster strikes, we have to band together as a community and figure out how to solve our problems. On September 15, 2013, our town was hit by a devastating flood, which destroyed homes and businesses, remade our physical landscape, and caused a major road in town to collapse into an impassable crevasse. Without this road, there is only one road into town and it is often impassable without 4-wheel drive: which many residents don't have, nor do they have the money to purchase. This campaign is to help the citizens of Madrid repair at least one of our two bad roads, so that we can reliably get in and out to take our kids to school, get ourselves to work, and always have food and supplies when we need them. It would also be nice if emergency vehicles could get to us in times of illness, fires, or floods.
